Last season was marked by the club's third relegation to Ligue 2 in its history, ending 13 consecutive seasons in the French top flight. The club's objective this season is to secure immediate promotion back to Ligue 1. Michel Der Zakarian has returned to the Nantes bench to lead this mission. Based on the pre-season matches, he seems keen to rely on a 5-3-2 system at the start of the season. On the arrivals side, the transfer window got off to a good start with five signings, but it's not over yet: a centre-back, a left-back and one or two strikers are still expected. 🛬 Wilitty Younoussa, Maxime Dupé, Lucas Perrin, Killian Corredor, Mathieu Cafaro ⏳️ Saïdou Sow ❓️ Yanis Zouaoui On the departures side, several players have already left the club and others may follow. 🛫 Alban Lafont, Chidozie Awaziem, Matthis Abline, Anthony Lopes, Francis Coquelin, Mathieu Acapandié, Uros Radakovic, Deiver Machado, Patrick Carlgren, Youssef El Arabi ⏳️ Lamine Diack, Yassine Benhattab ❓️ Tylel Tati, Johann Lepenant, Mostafa Mohamed
Key players
Lucas Perrin: Arrived this summer, he brings with him all the experience gained throughout his career in different leagues. He should naturally establish himself as one of the pillars of the defence. Frédéric Guilbert: Arrived mid-season last year, he extended his contract despite relegation to Ligue 2 and will be the new captain this season. He will be one of the cornerstones of Nantes' defence. Mathieu Cafaro: Arrived this summer, he has Ligue 2 experience, having already achieved three promotions. He will be important in Nantes' midfield and must guide the team towards its promotion objective. Killian Corredor: Arrived this summer, he also knows Ligue 2 very well. With over 100 matches played for Rodez, he will be one of the main attacking assets for the team.
Players to watch
Bahmed Deuff: Last season, he made some interesting appearances. He looks set to start the season as a starter based on the pre-season matches. Tylel Tati: Rumoured to be among the players likely to leave this summer, but nothing has materialised so far. If he stays, he will be very interesting to watch after making a breakthrough last season at just 17 years old on the European stage, despite a more difficult second half of the year. Louis Leroux: It will be interesting to see if he can finally confirm his potential after a difficult last season. Dehmaine Tabibou: He too will need to confirm his potential after struggling to establish himself in Nantes' midfield last season.
The fan's bet
Killian Corredor: He arrives with the heavy responsibility of leading Nantes' attack, whether it's scoring or creating chances. During his last season in Ligue 2, two years ago, he finished with 12 goals and 7 assists in 38 matches.
