Overview
The squad is currently way too bloated. According to media reports, at least 6 departures are expected (Tessman, Maitland Niles, Abner or Tagliafico, De Carvalho, Diawara, Molebe… or even Kluivert) and potentially 2-3 additional recruits are hoped for. (a right-back if there's a departure in that position, a physical defensive midfielder demanded by the coach and a backup striker.) The group will still move around quite a bit even though the core players are already in place and there shouldn't be any significant changes regarding them.
Key players
Greif, Niakhate, Morton, Tolisso and certainly the offensive line (Fofana, Openda and Nuamah) are the pillars/best elements of this team.
Players to watch
Fofana and Nuamah, after a season without playing, are highly anticipated. Openda, coming off a virtually blank season, is raising a lot of hopes. I see/hope for a really strong season from Merah. Bacher and Ouedraogo will need to assert themselves in defense (I believe in them personally). Regarding the youngsters, Himbert will have a card to play (and I hope Hamdani too!)
The fan's bet
Tolisso (who is not having a great preseason) is going to deliver us a great season, in a different role; playing higher up alongside Openda who is a striker that likes to play with two up front.
