For their last pre-season match before the start of the league, Le Mans FC faced Le Havre AC. This game wrapped up a busy day of work, since a first match had already taken place that same morning behind closed doors. While the morning match mostly involved the "B" team and the 6pm one the "A" team, Patrick Videira actually fielded a mix of both across the day. So the starting lineup against Le Havre wasn't the guaranteed starting XI for the Brest match, with some players even proving through their performance that they won't be starters. The main goal of this final match was above all to run a few last tactical tests.
Rayan Bamba imperious at centre-back: To cover for Harold Voyer's suspension for the next match, the staff tested him in central defence. Usually deployed on the flank, he excelled in this role and has almost certainly locked down a starting spot for the Brest game.
The left flank for Yasser Larouci: With Billal Brahimi injured and Lucas Calodat's possible departure, the left wing-back role was handed to him. He put in a solid shift and is the clear favourite, even if he doesn't yet have the stamina to last 90 minutes.
Lucas Buades: Just as valuable on the right as ever, he kept things simple and delivered good crosses, confirming himself as the safe bet on that flank.
A midfield taking shape: Lucas Bretelle only came on late to be managed carefully, but the difference in ball control with and without him is obvious. Around him, Adil Bourabaa and Milan Robin showed good things by taking initiative. This trio looks like the most likely to start against Brest.
Alexandre Lauray struggling: In line with his last season, he looked a notch below. Put under pressure, he showed that Ligue 1's demands were probably a bit too much for him right now. He should logically end up on the bench.
Noa Boissé shaky: A performance below his usual standards, and he'll need to raise his level if he doesn't want to lose his spot.
To play alongside Louis Mafouta, three players are competing for a single spot: Antoine Rabillard, Dame Gueye and Erwan Colas. Unfortunately, this match didn't allow for a clear pecking order to emerge. Antoine Rabillard lacked composure, missing big chances. Erwan Colas, who seemed best placed, wasn't even a starter at kickoff, which raises questions.
More broadly, the match was fairly quiet. The Le Mans players eased off somewhat, also feeling the physical toll of pre-season. They'll need to show a completely different level of intensity and focus against Brest.
